We Know Kansas Farming
Kansas is one of America's most productive agricultural states, with over 45,000 farms spanning 46 million acres. From wheat and sorghum to cattle feed, fresh produce, and dairy products, the movement of agricultural products depends on reliable pallet infrastructure throughout the year.
At Pallet Wichita, we understand the unique demands of agriculture: heavy loads that can exceed standard capacity, seasonal volume fluctuations that swing from minimal to maximum in weeks, rural delivery needs across vast Kansas distances, and strict export regulations for international grain and produce shipments.
Whether you run a family farm, a grain elevator, a produce packing operation, a dairy processing plant, a feed mill, or an agricultural cooperative, we have the pallets, the service, the pricing, and the agricultural knowledge to support your business year-round.

FDA Compliance for Food Contact Pallets
Pallets used for food products must meet specific FDA and FSMA requirements. Here is how our food-safe pallet program ensures full compliance.
No Chemical Treatment
The FDA prohibits chemical fumigation (methyl bromide) for wood pallets that will contact food products. Our ISPM-15 heat treatment uses only sustained high temperature — no chemicals whatsoever. This makes our pallets safe for direct food contact and food proximity applications.
Clean, Uncontaminated Surfaces
Pallets used for food products must be free from contamination including chemical stains, oil spills, biological matter, and foreign material. Our food-grade pallets are stored in a dedicated clean area, inspected for contamination, and transported on clean trailers.
FSMA Supplier Documentation
The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requires food companies to document their supply chain, including pallet suppliers. We provide documentation including pallet source, treatment method, storage conditions, and handling procedures that satisfy FSMA supplier verification requirements.
Traceability
In the event of a food safety recall, regulators may need to trace the pallet back to its source. Our batch tracking system links every pallet to its processing date, grade, treatment status, and delivery destination. Full traceability from our facility to your dock.
No Pest Evidence
Pallets must show no evidence of pest infestation — no bore holes, no sawdust piles, no live insects. Our ISPM-15 heat treatment kills all wood-boring pests. Post-treatment storage in a clean, enclosed facility prevents re-infestation.
Moisture Control
Excessively wet pallets promote mold growth, which is a food safety concern. Our kiln-dried lumber and indoor storage maintain moisture content below 20%. For cold chain applications, we recommend kiln-dried pallets specifically to minimize moisture absorption in humid cooler environments.
Temperature & Humidity Considerations
Agricultural pallets face extreme conditions — from freezing cold storage to blazing Kansas summers. Here is how temperature and humidity affect pallet performance and what to do about it.
Ambient Warehouse (50-80F)
Standard conditions. No special pallet requirements. All grades suitable. Wood moisture content stable.
Any grade appropriate for your load capacity needs.
Refrigerated Storage (32-45F)
Higher humidity causes wood to absorb moisture over time. Pallets gain 10-15% weight. Mold risk increases on pallets stored long-term in coolers.
Kiln-dried Grade A pallets. Rotate stock regularly. Consider plastic pallets for permanent cooler positions.
Frozen Storage (-10 to 32F)
Freeze-thaw cycles stress wood fibers. Pallets become brittle when frozen and may crack under impact. Moisture absorbed before freezing expands as ice, weakening joints.
New or premium Grade A pallets. Pre-acclimate to cold before loading. Inspect for cracks regularly.
Outdoor Storage (Kansas Climate)
Kansas weather cycles from 0F winter lows to 100F+ summer highs. Rain, snow, and UV exposure accelerate wood degradation. Pallets stored outdoors lose 15-25% capacity within 6 months.
Use economy pallets for outdoor-only applications. Store premium pallets indoors. Cover outdoor stacks with tarps.
High Humidity (85%+ RH)
Sustained high humidity causes wood to swell, warp, and eventually develop mold. Board spacing may tighten as wood expands. Nail holding strength decreases as wood softens.
Kiln-dried pallets with lower initial moisture content. Air circulation around stored pallets. Regular inspection for mold.
